Meet a St. Paul’s Thrift Shop Volunteer- Eileen Head

Meet a St. Paul’s Thrift Shop Volunteer, Eileen Head! Eileen began volunteering in 2000.

“There are so many reasons why volunteering at the Thrift Shop is such a great experience,” Eileen said. “Being with people who share the same interests; knowing that what you’re  doing can make a difference in people’s lives; feeling that you are contributing and giving back to society; and I volunteer in thankfulness and gratitude for all that God has given me.”

Eileen works primarily on window displays, and does a terrific job.

“I’ve heard it called the boutique Thrift Shop because of the high quality of merchandise,” Eileen said.

Eileen moved to Fairhope in 1982. She grew up in Belfast, N. Ireland where her home was destroyed by bombing in WWII. She lived in London, England, and Starkville, Mississippi. She served as Director of Adult Development for the Deep South Girl Scout Council.

Eileen says moving to Fairhope was the best move she ever made. Her son, daughter, and two grandchildren live on the Eastern Shore as well, and she enjoys getting to spend time with them.

Eileen also volunteers for the annual Holiday Shoppe in November, and she speaks about the hard work of the volunteers who put on the three days of unique shopping every year at the St. Paul’s Life Center in Daphne.

“I love the Holiday Shoppe!   Kathy Mallory, Linda Stealey, Maryellen McGregor and I organized it for many years.  It is wonderful now to see so many volunteers involved in it.  The “religious” table is where I spend the most time.  I think I have become the “cross” lady,” Eileen said.

“I’m not sure that people know what is involved in the Holiday Shoppe.  Volunteers work all year selecting outstanding items that come into the Thrift Shop, price,  pack and store them.  Then on the Saturday before the event  the men of the church  bring all the items  to the Life Center.  The decorators take over and set up the various tables and present a beautifully displayed wonderland.”

“The Holiday Shoppe is very important to the church.  It makes a lot of money that is shared with the church and community.  It is a wonderful start to the Holiday season and people look forward to it every year.  Jane Schultz and her committee and Judi Gulledge,  are doing a great job.”

Eileen’s Favorite Bible Verse. Psalm 138.
